Episode 123: Sheeran platter (plus Greenbelt 2026 review)

The gang talk Ed Sheeran, Macklemore, and whether artists - even really, really bland ones - should “get political”.

Laura, Malky and Jonty also reflect on the wonderful Greenbelt Festival 2026, their favourite moments and what the festival means to so many.

For those who made it to the end, here’s Animal by Katseye:

And Animal by Prick:

Jonty prefers the Prick version. ‘Course he does. Which do you like?

You can watch the video version of this chat (much to Laura’s chagrin) on the Beer Christianoty YouTube channel, if you prefer faces with voices.

You can listen to Episode 123 anywhere: in the rain that sends us running toward community; on the right side of history speaking out against injustice; even firmly on the fence; or right here…

Beer Christianity is an anti-capitalist, anti-imperialist, anti-racist, pro-LGBTQ+, pro-environment, pro-Palestine, pro-feminist, pro-Jesus podcast that is not nearly as serious as this makes it sound.

Shibboleth, our sister publication, is available now, in print.

New to Beer Christianity?

Liking us is the most complex political issue in the world.

Beer Christianity is an inclusive, affirming, radical, post-post-post-evangelical podcast where we sometimes drink a bit and talk a lot. Our aim is to be real, helpful and entertaining. At least to ourselves.

Beer Christianity also has a newsletter in which Jonty and guest authors comment on the news, theological issues and stuff that matters. He updates it according to his own wildly inconsistent neurodivergent schedule, but it’s a good read. Sign up to the Beer Christianity newsletter on Substack.

Support Beer Christianity…

Putting the show together costs a bunch of money in hosting fees, editing software, equipment and time. If you want to support us, subscribe to S(h)ibboleth magazine!

Beliefs…

We don't really want to preach at you, but some people like to know what we believe. It's this: Jesus Christ is the Son of God and came to teach us a better way to be, while reconciling us to God and each other in a way we could never do without Him. He also changed water into wine. Nice.
